TYSON VOELKEL TO BE FEATURED SPEAKER FOR WASHINGTON CO. MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM
The Washington County Veterans Association will soon pay tribute to fallen veterans at its annual Memorial Day program in Brenham.
The observance on Monday, May 26th will take place at the Brenham American Legion Hall at 11 a.m.
The keynote speaker will be Brenham native Tyson Voelkel, a U.S. Army veteran who serves as president and CEO of the Texas A&M Foundation. At the foundation, Voelkel successfully led Texas’ largest higher education fundraising initiative: the $4.25 billion “Lead by Example” campaign.
Voelkel’s military career includes multiple command roles, notably during combat operations in Iraq as a company commander within the 82nd Airborne Division, where he was twice awarded the Bronze Star and recognized with the prestigious General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award. Additionally, he served as an instructor at the United States Military Academy at West Point, earning accolades as the top instructor in leadership and behavioral sciences.
A graduate of Brenham High School and a recipient of Brenham ISD’s Distinguished Alumni Award, Voelkel lives in College Station with his wife, Christi, and their three daughters.
Following the program, a barbecue pork meal will be served dine-in and via drive-thru. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from local veterans, as well as at Dan’s Meat Market, Felder’s Buy & Bye, K&M Grocery, Quick-Mart and Robert’s Service Station.
KWHI will carry a live broadcast of the Memorial Day program on AM 1280, FM 101.7 and kwhi.com. The program will also be discussed during the Community Corner on Tuesday at 9:05 a.m.
