BRENHAM FIRE DEPT. RESPONDS WEDNESDAY TO JACKKNIFED 18-WHEELER, APARTMENT FIRE
The Brenham Fire Department responded to three calls on Wednesday.
A few minutes after 7:30 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to Highway 290 West and Highway 36 North for a report of a jackknifed 18-wheeler across the roadway. They arrived on location to block traffic and check for fluids. No fluids were found, and the department returned to service once the trailer was removed from the roadway.
Around 3:45 p.m., units were called out to a transportation incident in the 100 block of Lott Lane. They found a single vehicle that had hit some concrete pieces near the road. No fluids were leaking, so they returned to the station.
Approaching 10:30 p.m., BFD members went out to a fire alarm sounding at the Belle Towers senior apartments, 696 North Market Street. They soon upgraded the call to a structure fire after reports of smoke and fire inside an apartment. Upon arrival, the department determined there was nothing showing from the exterior of the three-story building, but they discovered a kitchen fire on the first floor had been extinguished by the sprinkler system. Brenham firefighters, along with units from the Salem and Meyersville Volunteer Fire Departments, ventilated the unit and helped residents back into their apartments. No fire extension was found, and the alarm system was reset. After the sprinkler system head was replaced, all units cleared the call.
