BRENHAM ATTORNEY, COMMUNITY LEADER WILLIAM ‘BILL’ BETTS JR. PASSES AWAY

Well-known Brenham attorney and community supporter William H. “Bill” Betts Jr. has passed away.

Betts was president and shareholder of Betts, Walters and Mutscher, P.C.  He was the recipient of numerous business and professional awards and honors, among those being the highest peer review rating by Martindale-Hubbell Legal Directory, multiple Brenham Banner-Press Reader’s Choice Awards for “Favorite Attorney”, and induction into Brenham ISD’s Distinguished Alumni in 2014.

Betts graduated from Brenham High School in 1974 and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University in 1977 and his Doctorate from Southern Methodist University in 1980.  He served from 1984-85 as president of the Washington County Bar Association and was also on the State Bar Law Office Management Committee, as well as a Sustaining Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Association.

Betts was heavily involved in the Brenham community, including as former president of the Brenham Maifest and as a founding board member and organizing director for the Brenham ISD Education Foundation, Boys and Girls Club of Washington County and Blinn College Foundation Board.  He was a two-term director of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, served as a board member and chair for the Brenham Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and coached several Washington County Little League baseball and softball teams.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.
