Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Bryan Ruemke says the accident was reported to dispatch around 8:15 a.m. and occurred in the 4700 block of FM 50.

According to Ruemke, the rollover caused the truck, belonging to Interstate Batteries, to lose its load of batteries in the ditch and neighboring pastureland.  Some of the batteries were leaking.

The total of batteries spilled was originally reported around 100, but Ruemke said a company representative confirmed it was about 200.  No injuries were reported.

Responding agencies included the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County EMS, Prairie Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Washington County Citizens on Patrol, DPS, Washington County Office of Emergency Management, and the Texas Division of Emergency Management.

FM 50 was shut down for several hours so that the truck could be towed away and the scene could be cleaned up.  The roadway was reopened around noon.

  1. That’s a ruler-straight section of FM50. Makes you wonder what happened to cause a rollover?
