SHANNAN CANALES NAMED KTEX/KWHI’S NEW GENERAL MANAGER
Radio stations KTEX 106 and KWHI 1280 have a new General Manager.
Tom Whitehead, President of Tom S. Whitehead Inc. which owns KTTX and KWHI, has announced that Assistant General Manager Shannan Canales has been promoted to General Manager. Canales becomes the first person outside of the Whitehead family to manage the stations since KWHI went on the air in 1947. She joined the company in January of 2020 as a Sales Account Executive, and quickly worked her way up the ranks to become Local Sales Manager. Canales has been serving as Assistant General Manager for the past year.
Canales says she is “truly honored and humbled” to be named to the position and calls this a “deeply meaningful moment”, not only for her professional career but her personal life.
Whitehead, who has managed the radio stations for the past 35 years, says he has complete confidence that Canales will do an outstanding job as General Manager. Whitehead said, “Shannan has been exceptional at everything she has taken on at the station, as well as at her family business Las Americas, as a Brenham City Council member, and in all of the positions she has held in community organizations. She loves to help employees learn and grow, and she loves helping our community, which fits perfectly into what local radio is all about.” Whitehead added that he’s not going anywhere. He just won’t be in the office as much on a daily basis as he continues as President of the company.
