WASHINGTON COUNTY HEADED TO MINOR SOFTBALL STATE TOURNAMENT

The Little League All-Stars Sectional Tournaments wrapped up over the weekend, and Washington County punched its ticket to the State Tournament with a commanding sweep over Smithville in a best-of-three series.

Washington County took care of business in back-to-back games, starting with an 8-0 win in Game 1. Kinsley Haferkamp delivered a lights-out performance, throwing a no-hitter and racking up an incredible 18 strikeouts to lead the way.

Game 2 brought more dominance from the mound as Lillie Landua stepped in and tossed a no-hitter of her own, striking out 14 batters. The offense backed her up in a big way, powering Washington County to an 11-0 win and sealing the series sweep.

With the sectional title in hand, Washington County now advances to the Minor Softball Little League State Tournament in Rosenberg, beginning Friday, July 11. They'll open tournament play against East End at 6:00 p.m.
