BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO VOTE ON SHIFTING MORNING SCHOOL ZONE TIMES EARLIER, HOLD BUDGET WORKSHOP

The Brenham City Council will potentially amend the hours for school zone speed limits during a special meeting and budget workshop on Monday.

City of Brenham staff has been in contact with Brenham ISD administrators, who say starting the morning school zone times earlier would better align with traffic and the schedules for school bells and buses.

Morning school zones currently begin at 7:30 a.m. and last through 8:30 a.m.  The proposed change would shift those times to 7:15 a.m. and 8:15 a.m.

The city says TxDOT is able to reprogram the school zone beacons on TxDOT roadways to reflect the new times.  If approved, the city plans to change the times on the signs it is in control of by the start of the new school year.

The afternoon school zone window of 2:45 to 4 p.m. is not slated to be adjusted.

Following that item, councilmembers will hold a workshop to discuss the proposed budget for the 2025-26 Fiscal Year.

The council will meet Monday at 8:30 a.m. at Brenham City Hall.
