BRENHAM POLICE, LEE & BASTROP CO. LAW ENFORCEMENT MAKE DRUG BUST
A multi-county narcotics investigation involving agencies out of Brenham, Lee County and Bastrop County led to an arrest on Thursday.
According to the Brenham Police Department, members of the department’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) collaborated with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Lee County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office to execute search and arrest warrants at a business in the 300 block of East Austin Street in Giddings.
42-year-old Juan Carlos Macedo of Smithville was taken into custody by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on an outstanding warrant for Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, 4-200 Grams. Officers located a firearm in the suspect’s vehicle during the search.
At the same time, the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office executed a residential search warrant at Macedo’s home in Smithville.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the operation resulted in the seizure of $37,055 in U.S. currency that is believed to be drug proceeds, an ounce of cocaine, four ounces of methamphetamine, five handguns, one semi-automatic rifle, and two vehicles.
The warrants came after a year-long investigation by the Brenham Police Department’s CRU. Police say the Giddings business was being used as a distribution hub to supply narcotics to drug distributors in Brenham and the surrounding areas. The department coordinated efforts with outside agencies due to the multi-jurisdictional nature of the case.
Brenham police thank the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office, Lee County Attorney’s Office and Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office for their support throughout the investigation. Lee County Sheriff Garrett Durrenberger said, “This investigation and the successful execution of these warrants reflect the outstanding collaboration between local law enforcement agencies and our shared commitment to dismantling dangerous drug operations in our communities.”
The case is still active, and more arrests and charges are possible.
