BRENHAM POST OFFICE CUSTOMERS DEALING WITH DELAYS AMID LARGE BACKLOG OF PACKAGES
Customers are reporting issues at the Brenham Post Office as the facility handles a large volume of packages.

Office on Thursday reads that the office has a
backlog of over 11,000 Amazon packages and asks
for customer patience.
A notice posted Thursday by the front door of the building says the post office is “dealing with an Amazon backlog of over 11,000 packages” and asks for the public’s patience as it attempts to work through the backlog. The notice was no longer up as of Friday afternoon.
Residents have taken to social media to voice their concerns about operations and staffing at the Brenham post office, which has not issued a formal statement regarding the situation.
Brenham Mayor Atwood Kenjura said he has tried to get in touch with the postmaster and figure out the problems, but to no avail, and he is frustrated with the lack of transparency. He said, “This just gives us more credence to having a new and better facility in a different location, because the problems are continually getting worse. The present location is just not adequate anymore.”
KWHI has contacted the U.S. Postal Service’s area communications office and was told they would look into the matter. KWHI has also reached out to the office of U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul.
And through all the torture and torment we and the Post Office go through Jeff Bezos gets richer and could care less about any complaints at all.
It has been bad since we moved here. We continuously get other people’s mail and packages. Sometimes we don’t get our mail at all.
The real problem is the management and employees. Management does not care about the employees, and employees do not care if they deliver mail or not. Back in the day we were used to employees that were proud of the work and took pride in delivering the mail. Today’s employees have no pride, do not really want to work, do not care if they deliver the mail or not. A lot of if due to the work pool they have to hire from. Since covid most young people do not think they need to work and will not. Until the upper management realize that there is a problem it will never be solved. I did not want to but I went to alot of online pay some I will not get a late charge. If I need to mail package, get stamps i go out of town.
Email, texts, automatic drafts, Door Dash, Online banking & shopping works great! It is the answer to what ails the frustrated consumer! And thank God for Amazon, Ebay, Walmart Online and countless other Internet enabled shopping networks. The local car dealerships with even come to your home to change the oil in your vehicle.
Welcome to the 21st Century! I love it!
This post office has been behind for years. Mail sits undelivered for weeks at a time.
Maybe get all new workers who don’t stand around with a cup of coffee in their hand
I think the post office supervisor
Needs to try a day car care job
Because he doesn’t know anything about running a post office
What a joke!
Are the mail trucks broke down? We only received mail on Friday this past week, this is unacceptable!!!
Amazon should deliver their own packages instead of their packages going through the post office.
How well I know – I had my mail put on HOLD ONE (1) MONTH AGO – and now they CANNOT FIND MY ONE MONTH worth of MAIL. I am one who gets LOTS of mail – EVERY DAY. This is NOT NEW – this very same thing happened to me ten (10) years ago. One really CANNOT BLAME THE WORKERS – they are working under VERY DIFFICULT CONDITIONS. This of course causes hardships for me, AND those who send me mail. I am probably preaching to the choir.
Same problems not as bad as Gene
Many of the folks at USPS are hard working, and dedicated their working lives to the moving the mail and doing their best. The problem is those that feel entitled and watch the other half work.
@ BD,
What is the point of your ambiguous comment? Could explicit bias, political corruption, ignorance or stone-age stupidity also have anything to do with the current state of affairs at the local post office? Perhaps an outdated contract that benefits a few at the inconvenience of many? You get what you pay for … for people to work there must first be work available at an acceptable wage that ENTITLES families to be properly cared for. On those rare occasions when I have business at the local post office, I also “watch the other half work”. I am retired; but, should I volunteer to go behind the counter and help out? The USPS workers are not the problem. Should the workers pool their money together and build a suitable post office? Some people … ?
What about the missing mail that never gets delivered.
I agree. I did not get any mail last week until Friday, and I didn’t have any amazon packages either. Once I received my mail, there was a bill postmarked July 8 but not received until July 18. Where was it for the past 10 days? How long does mail sit in Brenham before being taken to Houston???
Everyone needs to call Congressman McCaul’s office, maybe someone can get something done. But, then again, I doubt it, look how long there was no door on the office in Brenham.
These people work their butts off for us! I see them every day from sun up to sun down trying to make sure we get our mail. I have to pick up packages for where I work & I see on a daily basis what they are dealing with & honestly I don’t know how they do it , but they do & I am personally grateful to our Brenham postal carriers! Thank you for all that you do . ❤️
The clerk at the post office told me that due to Amazon Prime Days, there were thousands of packages backlogged at the post office. Each package had to be electronically logged in and sorted and the post office is understaffed for the large amount of packages arriving each day due to Amazon Prime Days. He explained that Amazon had a contract with USPS and Amazon packages took priority. No mail or packages would go out ahead of Amazon packages. We can only be patient until the pallets of packages are processed.
Amazon Prime Days is just another excuse for the poor delivery service of this post office. They have been awful for years! Why have 4 possible lanes/spaces for service when there are only ever 2, at most, staffed for servicing customers?
There is no excuse for their poor customer service! I have videos of delivery drivers throwing packages on my doorstep from feet away. I know they aren’t all that way. But 90% of the time I go inside, it’s the same thing!
The community needs to start calling Michael McCaul’s office. From a Federal perspective he has the ability to get this situation at least on the radar of the Postmaster General.I still use “snail mail” for most of my bills etc,but I can no longer count on the Brenham Post office to get things delivered on time.2-3 weeks for a piece of mail to get to the next town is unacceptable.
I will be taking my mail to Bellville,
Somerville, Carmine or Chappell Hill
where I will be sure my mail will go out in a timely manner.7
All are within 20 miles or less of
Brenham.
just something to consider.
From the information I gleaned, it seems as though Amazon and the local post office, (or maybe the Postal Service in general), agreed to a contract for the USPS to handle the last leg of delivery for Amazon packages, and therefore, Amazon now has priority in deliveries and obviously use of USPS workers. While I’m sure somebody is eager to get their purchase, what about the slowdown and any late fees that might be assessed on monthly bills that were sent out? If they’re too busy to put the mail in the box, then you may be two, three or four days late on that end. If the person doesn’t get to the box as soon as the mail is put there, you’ve got another delay, and if they don’t pay the bill right away, there’s the third portion. Is Amazon going to pick up the late fees and problems from a utility bill or insurance bill not being paid on time? I would certainly doubt it. Shouldn’t Amazon and the purchasers be afforded the same wait times that we are? And as far as contacting Senator McCaul, I have tried 17 times over the last 6 years and have never received a response from anyone in his office…
No mail was delivered this week until Friday at our address by Jackson St Park which included our Banner Press from Tuesday & Thursday. We also had packages that were not from Amazon just sitting at the post office since Monday that were delivered Thursday but not by the mail truck, a personal vehicle instead. My husband went to the post office on Wednesday to pick up our undelivered packages but was told they would be delivered. What a racket!!!
The problem is not with the local office. The problem is with upper management. Amazon has a sweetheart of a deal with the postal service. Postal carriers get packages dumped on them. Doesn’t matter if they deliver 3 or 300 packages a day. They get paid the same. They basically are working for free delivering Amazon packages. A big reason why the postal service can’t keep carriers. Most people don’t like working for free
Postal workers are not paid based upon the number of packages they deliver, that is a ridiculous statement. They are paid to deliver the mail regardless of the number of packages, 3 or 300. The post office traditionally has been known as a well-paid agency with good benefits; I am not feeling sorry for you in this case.
Deliver Amazon pkg. Later. Concentrate on regular mail first! Then pkgs.
USPS is a federal operation, and don’t really give a hoot about local complaints. Sad but true. The only solution is to get Rep. McCaul involved.
A new post office isn’t going to solve everything. Unless they hire new people to work at the front desk.
In my 30 years down town I have seen the service and the lack of good work ethics diminishing. The newer employees constantly on their Bluetooth devices talking to who knows and not respecting the customers. No Hello no nothing when they come in your door. The staff they have been employing for the last 5 years or so have no qualifications. It’s so great to see one of the longtime carriers come in your door. They are respectful and dedicated. The younger generation have no clue what that is. It’s sad but it comes from the top. Poor leadership.
The old Sutherlands building would be a great spot for a new Post office!
