WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO ACT ON CANDIDATES FOR EXTENSION AGENT, HR DIRECTOR

Tuesday is slated to be a busy meeting for Washington County Commissioners.

One of the first major items of consideration will be accepting a candidate for Washington County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources.  The role was previously held by Kara Matheney, who now holds that position for the Victoria County Extension Office after joining in the spring.

Later, the court will look to terminate the county’s contract with Strategic Government Resources (SGR) for interim Human Resources Director, effective August 8th, before acting on the selection committee’s recommendation for a Human Resources Director appointment.  John Rudd had been serving as the interim director following the departure of Angela Mlcak in April.

Commissioners will also hear a presentation from PlanNorth Architectural Company regarding bids for the Archives, Technology and Services Facility, which is the site of the old ATS Irrigation building on Highway 105.  They will then possibly authorize the county judge to appoint a member of the court to begin negotiations with the highest-ranking offeror for the facility based on the rankings provided by PlanNorth.

In other business, commissioners will hear and vote on a proposal from the City of Brenham to annex a portion of Dixie Road and two tracts of land contiguous to Dixie Road.  They also plan to take up an item to reject bids for the EMS Station #6 project at Lake Somerville.

An executive session will be held for the court to consult with attorneys regarding W-Industries, which is the contractor the county worked with on the project to install a generator at the Washington County Jail.  Any possible action will take place in open session.

Also in regular session, commissioners will consider:

  • Approving an engagement letter from Singleton Clark to provide auditing services to the county for Fiscal Year 2024.
  • Receiving a presentation from Donnie Montemayor of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office.
  • Hearing quarterly reports from Washington County 911 and Economic Development.
  • Appointing Sharlie Douglass to the Washington County Historical Commission.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
