BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO PROPOSE TAX RATE, PERFORM SUPT. EVALUATION

The Burton School Board will gather on Monday for its final meeting before the start of the new school year.

Among the business for trustees to consider will be proposing a tax rate to be published, along with setting a public meeting date to discuss the proposed rate and budget before adoption.  The current adopted tax rate is $0.9455 per $100 valuation, consisting of $0.7355 for maintenance and operations (M&O) and $0.2100 for interest and sinking (I&S).

The board will also hear an update on construction projects that have been occurring throughout the summer.

Later, board members will potentially approve Burton ISD’s Child Nutrition Program to operate under the federal Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program, which allows all students to receive free breakfasts and lunches.

Trustees will also vote on the elementary, secondary and districtwide improvement plans and the student code of conduct.  Additionally, they will review the staff and student handbooks, consider any possible changes to local policies resulting from a prior review session, and take up potential revisions or additions to the district’s supplemental pay schedule.

An executive session will be held to perform an evaluation of Superintendent Vikki Curry.  Any action on Curry’s contract will take place in open session.

The board will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in the Burton ISD Administration Office.  The meeting is being held at 7 p.m. due to the Meet the Panthers pep rally at 6 p.m. in the Burton High School gym.
