BRENHAM CUBS LIGHT UP THE SKY FOR MIDNIGHT MADNESS
With the start of the 2025 high school football season just two weeks away, the Brenham Cubs gave fans an early taste of Friday night lights during their annual Midnight Madness event on Friday, August 15.
Held at Cubs Stadium, the highly anticipated event drew a large and enthusiastic crowd, eager for a first look at this year’s squad. The evening marked the team’s first full-padded practice of the season and featured a live intrasquad scrimmage under the stadium lights.

The Cubs opened the night in style, lining up in formation for warm-ups across the field at five-yard intervals, offering fans a uniform and disciplined sight. Excitement reached a peak as the team made a grand entrance through the inflatable Cubs helmet to a roar from the crowd, officially kicking off Midnight Madness.
After a series of drills, the team was split into offensive and defensive units for a spirited inter-squad scrimmage featuring both the varsity and junior varsity squads. Fans got their first look at the highly anticipated quarterback battle between Hudson Hartstack and Xyran Upshaw, each showing flashes of leadership and athleticism. The offense looked sharp early, but the defense matched the energy with physicality and strong execution, led by standout linebacker Caleb Espinoza.
Beyond the top-tier talent, the event also highlighted the depth of this year’s roster. Junior varsity players impressed under the lights, signaling a strong pipeline for the program’s future.
The excitement continues this weekend with the team’s annual Media Day on Saturday, where players will take individual and team photos, as well as participate in interviews and media sessions. It’s another opportunity for fans to learn more about the 2025 Cubs and their mindset heading into the season.
The first live action comes Thursday, August 21, when the Cubs travel to Rattler Stadium to scrimmage Navasota. Brenham will officially open the season the following week at home against the Huntsville Hornets on Senior Night at Cubs Stadium.
