BRENHAM FAMILY PARK, NEW FIRE STATION & DOWNTOWN TO BENEFIT FROM TIRZ FUNDS

Tax funds from the City of Brenham’s Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone will soon benefit the Brenham Family Park, the new fire station, and downtown.  At a recent meeting of the TIRZ Board, members approved a proposed transfer of $1 million to support construction of Phase 1 of the Brenham Family Park on the south side of town.  Also approved were transfers of $500,000 to purchase furniture, fixtures, and equipment for Fire Station Number 2, and $200,000 for construction of a communications tower near Fire Station Number 2.

Downtown building owners could also receive the benefit of TIRZ funds, as $120,000 was approved for downtown safety grants related to fire suppression and fire safety improvements.  Downtown building owners will have the opportunity to file for grants up to $60,000 each in order to add or update fire suppression in their buildings.  The high cost of fire suppression has often hindered the renovation of second floors in Brenham’s historic downtown area.  Even with these expenditures and transfers, the City’s TIRZ fund is expected to have a balance of over $1.1 million at the end of fiscal year 2026.
