BRENHAM CIVIC LEADER LEON TOUBIN PASSES AWAY

Leon Toubin, a Brenham native who was well-involved with numerous local organizations throughout his lifetime, passed away on August 15th at the age of 97.

Leon Toubin

After graduating from Brenham High School, Blinn College and the University of Texas, Toubin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was honorably discharged and returned to Brenham to join the family business, Toubin Brothers.  He managed the New York Stores, which operated in several Southeast Texas towns, and also served as a director of the First National Bank of Brenham.

Among Toubin’s many roles in the community were serving for over 20 years as a member of the Blinn College Board of Trustees, sitting on the Trinity Hospital Board and Trinity Foundation Board, and supporting Camp For All as an original member of the board.  He was also active in the Brenham Economic Development/Industrial Foundation and the Rotary Club.

Leon and his wife Mimi, who passed away in 2020, supported the creation of Toubin Park in downtown Brenham.  They also served as the caretakers of the B’nai Abraham Synagogue in Brenham before arranging to relocate it to Austin.  Leon was honored in 2016 as the Washington County Man of the Year.

Funeral services were held at B’nai Abraham Cemetery in Brenham.  A memorial service was held at The Barnhill Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the B’nai Abraham Cemetery, Camp For All Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.
