JASON SMALLEY RETIRING AS BELLVILLE POLICE CHIEF
Bellville Police Chief Jason Smalley has announced his retirement from the position.
Smalley submitted a letter to city officials earlier this month about his plans to retire as chief, effective on Sunday, August 31st. He will be accepting a new opportunity with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
Smalley, who has served as chief of the Bellville Police Department since 2021, said in his letter that his 22 years with the City of Bellville have been “an extraordinary experience” and that he has “had the privilege of working alongside some of the finest individuals one could hope to know.”
Smalley said through the support of the mayor and council, the police department has been able to build a new station, expand its patrol positions, establish a K-9 unit, introduce new technologies such as mobile citation writers and data terminals, and successfully increase officer wages.
Smalley said, “The friendships I’ve forged with my colleagues and the community have provided far more joy than any position or title ever could. It has been a true honor and blessing to work alongside the citizens of Bellville.”
Lieutenant Royal “Ray” Roberson has been named by the city council as the interim police chief, beginning September 1st. He will serve in the role as the city works to identify Smalley’s full-time successor.
