BRENHAM FD CALLED OUT MONDAY FOR ACCIDENT, MULTIPLE ALARMS & GAS ODOR REPORTS

The Brenham Fire Department responded to five calls on Monday and two early this (Tuesday) morning.

Shortly before 9:15 a.m. Monday, the department was dispatched to the Brenham Schoolhouse Hotel, 600 East Alamo Street, for a fire alarm.  Nothing was showing from the exterior of the building, and units found no signs of smoke or fire after walking through the building.

Close to 10 a.m., a gas smell was reported in the area of South Day Street and West Stone Street.  Upon arrival, firefighters found no reading or smell of gas in the area.

At 2:15 p.m., BFD members were called out for a transportation incident in the 2500 block of South Day Street.  There, they found a two-vehicle accident with no injuries or fluids leaking.  The department returned to service once the roadway was back open.

Just shy of 3:30 p.m., units responded to a fire alarm at a home in the 1000 block of Rootstock Road.  Nothing was detected from the outside of the home, and ultimately, firefighters found no signs of smoke or fire.

A few minutes after 10:45 p.m., the department went out to Focused Care at Brenham, 1303 Highway 290 East, for a report of a gas smell inside the building.  Personnel from the fire department and City of Brenham Gas Department found nothing showing from the outside of the building, but they did discover a leak at a stove.  The gas was turned off, and the gas department released the fire department from the call.

Around 5:30 a.m. today, a fire alarm was called in from Kruse Village, 1700 East Stone Street.  Nothing was detected from the outside of the building, but firefighters found the alarm was caused by a resident cooking.  After resetting the alarm, units returned to the station.

Approaching 7 a.m., firefighters responded to a report of a person trapped in an elevator at 802 Green Street on the Blinn College campus.  They made location to find the elevator stuck between the first and second floors.  The department used elevator keys to gain access and help the woman out of the elevator, which was then placed out of service and had the power turned off.
