LADY PANTHERS UPSET #1 IOLA TO WIN RICE TOURNAMENT

The Burton Lady Panther Volleyball Team closed out the Rice Consolidated Tournament in Altair with a pair of wins on Saturday including an upset over #1 ranked Iola to win the Gold Bracket Championship.

In the first match, Burton swept Weimar 2-0 (25-9 and 25-22). Lexi Broesche led the team in kills with seven, while also having 12 digs on defense. Adison Harmel dished out 14 assists. Paige Fritsch led the defense with 16 digs.

Then, in the final match of the day, the Lady Panthers beat the #1 ranked Iola Lady Bulldogs 2-1 (19-25, 28-26, and 25-23) to win the tournament. With the win, Burton also avenged a loss to Iola that occurred on Friday night. Amaya Williams led the way with 11 kills. Aerynn Huntsman was right behind her with 10 kills. Laci Broesche dished out 22 assists, and Harmel finished with 15 digs. Fritsch and Lexi Broesche led the defense with ten digs each.

Burton is now 22-7 on the season. Next up, they will host the Caldwell Lady Hornets tonight (Tuesday). The JV will begin things at 5pm, with the Varsity to follow afterwards.
