BLINN-BRENHAM THEATRE ARTS TO STAGE FOUR PLAYS FOR 2025-26 SEASON

The Blinn College District Theatre Arts Program will present four plays on the Brenham Campus, ranging from a classic love story by William Shakespeare to a musical about a square pumpkin.

The theme for the 2025-26 season is “What’s in a Name?” The program plans an ambitious schedule of performances, said Theatre Arts Director Brad Nies, who will direct three of the plays.

“We have very talented students in our program who are looking forward to performing for the public,” said Nies. “The students and faculty work every season to stage plays that appeal to a broad audience, and we think the public is going to be entertained by this season’s schedule.”

All performances will be held at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center at 600 Blinn Boulevard. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for Blinn students and children. They are available online at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice, by calling 979-830-4024, or emailing boxoffice@blinn.edu.

Plays are:

  • “Spookley the Square Pumpkin: The Musical,” 7 p.m. Oct. 16 and 17, and 2 p.m. Oct. 18 and 19 (school preview performances will be at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Oct. 16 and 17 );
  • “Chemical Imbalance: A Jekyll and Hyde Play,” 7 p.m. Nov. 13 and 14, and 2 p.m. Nov. 15 and 16 (preview performances are Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.);
  • “Romeo and Juliet,” 7 p.m. Feb. 19 and 20, and 2 p.m. Feb. 21 and 22 (preview performances are Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.);
  • and “The Boys Next Door,” 7 p.m. April 16 and 17, and 2 p.m. April 18 and 19 (preview performances are April 16 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.).

In addition to the plays, the program’s improvisation troupe “Slaphappy” will perform Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. at the O’Donnell Center.

The program’s 10-Minute Play Festival will be held March 27 at 7 p.m. and March 28 at 2 p.m. Area high school students will submit original 10-minute plays designed to inspire, enlighten, and entertain audiences.

The program also will have entries into the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) and the Texas Community College Speech and Theatre Association Play Festival (TCCSTA).

“Spookley” will be Blinn’s entry into the KCACTF, a national play festival that allows universities, four-year schools, and community colleges the opportunity for a critique from a theatre professional, as well as individual recognition.

“Chemical Imbalance: A Jekyll and Hyde Play” will serve as Blinn’s 2025 Theatre Arts Faculty Showcase. In February, Blinn will take “Romeo and Juliet” to the 2026 TCCSTA. That will be followed by the “10-Minute Play Festival,” with the program ending the year with the touching comedy, “The Boys Next Door.”

“In addition to these great shows, our faculty, staff, and students will keep very busy hosting a variety of touring shows at the O’Donnell Center,” said Nies.

Kevin Patrick, Technical Theatre Arts Director, will be technical director for each show.

Jennifer Patrick, Theatre Arts Instructor, will serve as costume, makeup, and hair designer for the season. She will direct ‘The Boys Next Door,” serve as choreographer for “Spookley the Square Pumpkin,” and be showcased in “Chemical Imbalance.”

Jill Stewart, Instrumental Music Coordinator and Clarinet Professor, will serve as music director for “Spookley.”

Blinn’s Theatre Arts Program cultivates a quality educational foundation of study, application, and experience through a wide range of performance, technical, and production studies. Its Associate of Arts degree plan integrates artistic, technical, and academic disciplines of theatre from the classroom to the stage. Students have an opportunity to audition for a variety of performances related to drama and theatre and are prepared to transfer to four-year colleges and universities.
