MULTIPLE DOGS RESCUED FROM NAVASOTA HOME DEEMED ‘UNINHABITABLE’

An investigation into violations at a Navasota home resulted in authorities rescuing numerous dogs in unsafe conditions.

The Navasota Police Department says its animal control division, along with code enforcement officials, began their investigation last week at a home in the 200 block of Buckingham Lane, after receiving reports of multiple violations.  A female resident was identified at the home, and family members were contacted to provide assistance.

At 8 a.m. Thursday, police officers, city personnel and volunteers from local animal rescue organizations performed a consensual seizure and removed 30 small dogs from the home.  Animal control set up traps to safely capture any additional dogs that may have still been outside.

Members of the Navasota Fire Department and St. Joseph EMS assisted due to hazardous conditions inside the residence.  Following an inspection, a city building official declared the residence “uninhabitable”.

The resident was evaluated by EMS at the scene and released to family care.  The city says it will continue working with the resident and her family throughout the ongoing process.

The rescued dogs were taken to Grimes County Animal Rescue for evaluation and treatment.  Animals are now available for foster through the organization.  The rescue is also accepting donations to assist with medical expenses and small-breed dog food.
