MEET MAKI, THE NEWEST MEMBER OF THE BRENHAM POLICE DEPT.

The Brenham Police Department welcomes the newest member of its team.

K-9 Maki, under the care of Brenham Police
Sergeant Jimmy Ha, was introduced to Brenham
City Councilmembers on Thursday.

K-9 Maki was introduced by Police Chief Gary Boshears during Thursday’s city council meeting.  Maki and her partner, Sergeant Jimmy Ha, recently completed a four-week training program and have earned their certifications to begin serving.

Maki is trained for apprehension, tracking and narcotics.  She is about 18-19 months old, is from Poland and is trained in Czech.

The department’s K-9 program has been on pause since the retirement of K-9 Robbie in September 2020.  It has been restarted through community donations, which help cover the cost of training, equipment and ongoing care.

Boshears thanked the city council, city manager and the public for supporting the return of the program.  He also thanked City of Brenham Facility/Fleet Superintendent Stephen Draehn and the full maintenance department for getting a police vehicle outfitted with the tools needed for police K-9 work.
