A homicide suspect that was on the run got arrested on Monday in Grimes County.

According to Grimes County Sheriff Don Sowell, on Sunday night just after 7pm, his office received a report of a white male trespassing at a residence located off of FM 1696 in Bedias.

The caller reported that the individual, who was described as a white male wearing black shorts and no shirt, appeared to be experiencing a possible mental health episode.

Information provided to deputies indicated that the subject was observed at a property and may have been in possession of a pistol in his pocket.

Additional reports from area residents stated that the same individual had knocked on several doors earlier in the day asking for a shirt.

Deputies patrolled the Bedias area throughout the night but were unable to locate the individual.

On Monday morning just before 9:15am, dispatch received another call reporting a suspicious vehicle located on private property near County Road 115.

The reporting party advised that a black Cadillac Escalade was found on pastureland and was believed to be possibly stolen. Deputies were dispatched to the scene.

A little after 10am, Grimes County Precinct 1 Constable James Ellis advised that he had received information from residents that the subject had been at Smiley’s in Bedias.

Constable Ellis went to Smiley’s to recover video surveillance, and later advised the subject had returned to Smiley’s. Units responded to the area, and the subject was detained.

Deputies were informed that the subject claimed to have hidden a firearm near Smiley’s but refused to disclose the location. After conducting a search, deputies recovered a firearm, described as an Astra .357 caliber revolver.

Further investigation revealed that the subject, 26-year-old Brandon Ashley, was wanted out of Johnson County for Homicide. The vehicle he was operating was also connected to that warrant.

Just after 11:30 a.m., the subject was taken to the emergency room for medical evaluation and treatment. After evaluation, he was transported to the Grimes County Jail in Anderson.

Sheriff Sowell said that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with further information related to this case is asked to contact the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office at 936-873-2151 or submit a tip through P3tips.com.
