NO INJURIES AFTER HOUSE FIRE IN BRENHAM
A family and two pets are okay after a house fire Friday morning in Brenham.
Around 10 a.m., the Brenham Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at a home in the 900 block of Garrett Street. The call was dispatched with heavy smoke from the residence.
Crews from the Meyersville, Salem and Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Departments responded for manpower at the scene. Also assisting were the Brenham Police Department, Washington County EMS and Washington County Constables.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and searched the home for any extension or hot spots. The family had evacuated without injuries, and two dogs were rescued and unharmed.
The fire department reported major damage to the house, with most of the damage being inside the home. The cause of the fire is still being investigated by the Brenham Fire Marshal.
The call was one of four on the day for the Brenham Fire Department.
Just before 1 p.m., units were called out for a grass fire at Highway 36 North and Dixie Road. When they made location, they found about a 1-foot by 3-foot grass fire that had already been extinguished.
A few minutes shy of 6 p.m., firefighters went out to a structure fire reported in the 2100 block of Timberline Court. They found smoke from a barbecue pit in the backyard and learned that the pit caught fire while the homeowner was cooking. The department used a water can to cool the pit. No damage was found to the house.
Shortly after 9:45 p.m., BFD members responded for a smoke investigation at a home in the 800 block of West Jefferson Street. They found smoke showing from the backyard area and discovered a small fire burning in a pit. The department advised the homeowner to put out the fire.
The department also responded early this (Saturday) morning, close to 2:45 a.m., for a structure fire called in from the Belle Towers Senior Living Community, 696 North Market Street. Nothing was detected from the outside of the building, and no signs of smoke or fire were found inside the subject apartment room. After determining there were no issues with the HVAC system, they ultimately found the apartment had a bad smoke detector.
