MARK SCHONEFELD RUNNING FOR WASHINGTON CO. PRECINCT 2 COMMISSIONER
A local farmer is the fourth individual to declare candidacy for Washington County Precinct 2 Commissioner.
Mark Schonefeld has announced his intent to run in the March Republican Primary for the seat held by Candice Bullock, who is not seeking another term in office.
Schonefeld, who challenged Bullock for the position in 2022, has owned and operated Schonefeld Farms in Chappell Hill for nearly three decades. He also worked as a project manager for REC Industries, coordinating between field operations and the main office on major projects at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo.
Schonefeld has been a Breeders Greeters committee member for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo since 2001. He also served with the Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department and represented local producers on the Farm Service Agency committee.
Through his time in agriculture, small business and public service, Schonefeld describes himself as someone who “knows how to roll up his sleeves, solve problems, and get things done,” with experience in managing budgets, projects and people. He believes leadership is about teamwork, accountability and service and says he wants to “ensure that our community continues to grow responsibly - built on teamwork, fiscal responsibility, and local values.” He says he is ready to work for Washington County by supporting local farmers, businesses and residents; wise decision-making and allocation of county funds; and strengthening local infrastructure.
Schonefeld is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Systems Management and of Texas State Technical Institute with an associate degree in Construction Equipment Mechanics.
The primary field for the Precinct 2 commissioner’s seat also includes Amanda Klehm, Jim Chisolm and William “Bubba” Herrin. Saturday is the first official date to file for office, with the filing deadline being Monday, December 8th.
