Captain Dana Diamond was serving as an international relief officer for UPS, acting as an additional crew member in case the others needed to rest.  He previously was commissioner and chief for Bastrop County Emergency Services District No. 1.

Captain Richard Wartenberg of Independence, Kentucky and First Officer Lee Truitt of Albuquerque, New Mexico were serving along with Diamond on the flight and were also killed.

In a statement, UPS said it extends its sympathies to the family and friends of the victims.

Nine people are still missing after Tuesday’s crash, which happened on takeoff from the Louisville airport on its way to Honolulu, Hawaii.  According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the left engine detached from the wing, causing the wing to catch fire.

A vigil was held Thursday in Louisville in remembrance of the victims.
