Washington County Precinct Three Commissioner Kirk Hanath has announced plans to run for the office of Washington County Judge in the March 2026 Republic Primary.

Here is Hanath's campaign announcement.

Kirk Hanath, a dedicated servant leader and current Washington County Commissioner for Precinct 3, today announced his candidacy for Washington County Judge. With over two decades of experience in county government, Hanath is committed to bringing his proven track record of fiscal responsibility, community collaboration, and forward-thinking leadership to the role of County Judge.
“Serving the people of Washington County as their Commissioner in precinct 3 has been an honor, and I am excited about the opportunity to embark on this next chapter in public service,” said Hanath. “If elected County Judge, I will continue to prioritize the needs of our residents -- fostering economic growth, enhancing public safety, leveraging technology to create efficiencies, and preserving our rich heritage -- while ensuring that decisions are made with integrity, common sense, and a deep respect for our shared values.”
Hanath’s leadership has been instrumental in addressing the county’s evolving challenges, from preparing for population growth to strengthening partnerships with local entities, state leaders, and community organizations. His philosophy of gathering comprehensive information before acting has earned him a reputation as a steady, informed voice in county governance.
“As we look to the future, Washington County stands at a crossroads of opportunity,” Hanath continued. “From expanding economic development to bolstering our fiber footprint, while honoring our community’s heritage and identity, I am ready to lead with the same dedication that has guided my service throughout my tenure as County Commissioner. Together, we can build a stronger, more vibrant county for generations to come.”
Hanath will officially file for the March 2026 Republican Primary. He invites Washington County residents to join his campaign through volunteer opportunities, events, and updates at www.kirkhanath.com or by following @kirkhanath4judge on social media.

Hanath was first elected to office in 2004. With his entry into the race, that mean Washington County will have three candidates seeking the Washington County Judge's Office. Douglas Cone and Brad Tegeler had previously announced their candidacies.

The current Washington County Judge, John Durrenberger, is not seeking re-election.

By running for County Judge, Hanath had to submit his resignation as Precinct Three Commissioner. It will now be up to Judge Durrenberger to appoint someone to fill the seat until the position comes up for re-election.
