HOUSTON MAN ARRESTED IN LEE COUNTY ON MULTIPLE CHARGES AFTER AN ALTERCATION
A Houston man found himself in the Lee County Jail after being arrested on eight charges stemming from a wild run-in with local law enforcement.
Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy Benjamin Eickenhorst was dispatched to the 2600 Block of Highway 290 just before 7:30am on Sunday morning. The Sheriff’s Office had received a report of a reckless and possibly intoxicated driver.
Deputy Eickenhorst found a silver Saturn that had stopped on the shoulder, and made contact with the driver, 41-year-old Lonnie Dewayne Jackson.
Sgt. Jaboris Dickerson arrived to assist at the scene.
After detecting the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, Eickenhorst searched Jackson an found a bag with a green leafy substance that was determined to be 24 grams of marijuana.
As Sgt. Dickerson tried to handcuff him, Jackson tucked his hands under his body, assumed a stiffened stance, and refused repeated commands to place his hands behind his back.
According to the Giddings Times, Jackson used his weight and physical strength to prevent the officers from securing his hands, and then he took multiple swings with a closed fist at Dickerson.
Dickerson was able to get out his pepper spray and use it on Jackson. Jackson tried to run back towards Highway 290, and ignored the officers’ commands to stop.
Eickenhorst was finally able to subdue him and get the handcuffs on him.
After continuing their search, Eickenhorst found a bag with a white powdery substance that tested positive for 7.58 grams of cocaine, and a THC vape pen with two grams of a dark liquid.
They also found a disassembled firearm in the Saturn, which due to Jackson’s prior criminal history, he was not allowed to have.
While being placed in the patrol car, Jackson started kicking at the rear door with his legs, which shattered the window, and damaged the door frame causing around $5,000 in damage.
Jackson was taken to the Lee County Jail in Giddings where he was charged with a third degree felony for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, a second degree felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, 4-200 Grams, a third degree felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 2, 1-4 Grams, a Class B Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, a Class A Misdemeanor for Evading Arrest, and a third-degree felony for Assault on a Peace Officer.
The combined bond is set for $96,000.
