CITY OF BRENHAM LAUNCHING TEXT MESSAGE SYSTEM FOR UTILITY CUSTOMERS

The City of Brenham is offering a new way for utility customers to report and receive updates on power outages.

The city announced in a release today (Tuesday) that it is launching a new bi-directional text message notification system, using Milsoft and Whispir technology.

Beginning on Monday, December 8th, customers can receive real-time outage updates and quickly report outages by text.  Customers with a current cell phone number on file will be automatically enrolled in the service, and they will receive a welcome message with an option to opt out if they choose.

Customers can text the following keywords to the city’s utility customer service number at 979-337-7400:

  • OUT – report an outage
  • STATUS – check outage status
  • HELP – get information
  • STOP – opt out
  • UNSTOP – opt back in.

Residents are encouraged to save the customer service number in their phones as a City of Brenham contact.  They can visit the billing customer portal or call the customer service line to ensure the city has their correct cell number.

The city says the Outage Alert system will automatically notify customers when an electric meter detects an outage, when power is restored, and for other important updates.  The system is intended to improve reliability and customer service by keeping customers informed during outages.

Message and data rates may apply.
