TOYS FOR TOTS AND FIRST RESPONDERS STUFF THE VEHICLE EVENT ON SUNDAY

  

Toys for Tots and Washington County First Responders are teaming up to once again make Christmas brighter for local children.

The public is invited to come out to the Fireman's Training Center tomorrow (Sunday) for their annual collection event entitled, "Lights, SiThe TXDOT Bryan District is encouraging local residents to mark their calendars for an upcoming car seat and booster seat inspection event.

The event is being held on Thursday, January 15, from 3:00–6:00pm. The event will be held at the Washington County Maintenance Office, located at 1821 Highway 105 in Brenham.

Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be on hand to provide education on proper usage and installation of car seats, along with inspection of the families’ current seats.

Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death among children. While most people believe their children are properly buckled up, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration points out that 46% of all car seats are misused.

TXDOT says the best way to keep young children safe in your vehicle is to make sure they’re properly buckled up in a car seat. That means selecting a car seat that’s appropriate for a child’s age and size and installing it correctly.

Toys for Tots is looking to fill emergency vehicles with new, unwrapped gifts for ages 17 and under.

The collection period is from 11am-2pm.

Last year, Toys for Tots had a record year providing gifts for 400 families and making Christmas brighter for nearly 1,000 children.
