TRAVIS SEMORA ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR WASHINGTON CO. PRECINCT 2 J.P.
A longtime law enforcement official and current appointee to the office of Washington County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace will seek that office full-time in the next election.
Travis Semora has announced he will run in the March Republican primary for the position formerly held by Douglas Cone, who stepped down upon declaring his candidacy for Washington County Judge. Semora was appointed by county commissioners in October and sworn in last month to fill Cone’s unexpired term.
Semora has decades of experience with multiple law enforcement agencies, beginning with the Houston Police Department from 1974 to 1999. He also served with the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office from 1999 to 2000 and the Austin County Sheriff’s Office from 2000 to 2003. Additionally, he served as a law enforcement professional in Afghanistan, training Afghan Border Police and advising intelligence commanders in investigations. He is currently undergoing training for new judges as administered by the Texas Justice Court Training Center.
Semora says his goal is to improve how the office serves the public in its various roles and capacities.
Through his time thus far, Semora has completed an initial audit of the office’s performance and reviewed concerns presented about office hours and availability. He says a decision was made to revise office hours and move the office to the county annex building in downtown Brenham, in order to reduce office downtime and serve as a central location in the county.
Semora will be opposed in the Republican primary by Holly Johnson, who continues to serve as the justice of the peace office’s chief justice clerk.
Registration to vote in the March 3rd primary is available through Monday, February 2nd. Early voting begins on Tuesday, February 17th and ends on Friday, February 27th.
