The Washington County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the female victim in the shooting, 42-year-old Skye Schumpert, passed away at 8:25 a.m. Monday.  The male victim, 67-year-old Mark Schumpert, is recovering at home.

36-year-old Clay Walker Schumpert remains in custody after his arrest on Monday, December 8th, when deputies responded to the 9600 block of Old Independence Road after receiving a call from a man who said he had shot his father and sister.

Officials found the father with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso and the sister with a gunshot wound to her head.  Both were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

The sheriff’s office reported that Schumpert refused to comply with deputies’ commands but was eventually detained.  He was charged at the time with two counts of Aggravated Assault of a Date, Family or Household Member with a Weapon and three counts of Assault of a Public Servant.

When asked if Schumpert’s charges will be elevated or if new ones will be added, the sheriff’s office said it currently does not have additional information regarding charges, but will provide an update if there are any changes or additions.

Schumpert was previously arrested by Brenham police in October after a search warrant from an investigation into marijuana distribution led to the seizure of multiple types of illegal narcotics and paraphernalia.

The sheriff’s office is being assisted in its investigation by the Texas Rangers.
