MAIFEST REGALIA TO BE ON DISPLAY AT BULLOCK STATE HISTORY MUSEUM

A beloved tradition in Brenham will soon be showcased on a statewide stage.

Brenham Maifest will be featured in a special exhibition at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin beginning in the spring.  The limited-time exhibition, titled “Texas Festivals”, will be open from April 25th through September 27th and will offer a glimpse into Texas’ iconic festivals, exploring what Texans choose to celebrate and how those celebrations reflect their history and their shared identity as Texans and Americans.

As part of the exhibit, the Bullock Museum plans to display regalia from 1977 Senior Maifest King Kevin Ray Lehmann of the Court of Romance, on loan from the Brenham Heritage Museum’s permanent collection.  The inclusion of the historic Maifest regalia highlights Brenham’s role in preserving and celebrating Texas’ cultural heritage.

“Texas Festivals” will focus on how local festivals reveal the character of a community, including its traditions, industries and cultural roots.  Organized by theme, the exhibit will highlight festivals that celebrate agriculture and other industries, nature and natural resources, people, and recently created traditions.
