PROBATION VIOLATION HEARING SCHEDULED FOR FAYETTE COUNTY JUDGE CANDIDATE
A candidate seeking the Republican nomination for Fayette County Judge will soon find himself back in court.
A hearing has been scheduled on January 21 for Craig Moreau after he was accused of violating his probation on an Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon charge.
Moreau pled guilty to accidentally shooting himself and another patron at the Popz Star Bar in La Grange on July 28.
The other patron, who has been identified by the Fayette County Record as Susan Williams, said in an interview that she went to visit her friend, who was bartending that night.
Williams said in the interview that they were watching a Texas Rangers baseball game on TV, Moreau came up to the bar, and stood next to her.
Investigators believe that his pistol was in his pocket when it went off wounding both himself and Williams.
Williams and Moreau were taken to different hospitals in Austin for medical treatment.
As a result of the incident, Moreau was placed on ten years’ probation. Part of the probation is that he cannot consume alcohol, or be on the premises of any establishment that has a license for on-premises consumption.
Moreau, who is the former Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator, is one of five candidates seeking the Republican nomination for Fayette County Judge in the March 3 primary.
Current Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller is not seeking another term.
