2025 RECAP: BURTON ISD SUPT. VIKKI CURRY
With 2025 coming to a close, KWHI is meeting with officials around Washington County to put the year into perspective and get a glimpse of how the new year will take shape.
We continue our series with Burton ISD Superintendent Vikki Curry, who said continued achievements by students and positive developments with the bond construction project made 2025 a successful year.
Curry said Burton ISD is excited about earning an “A” grade in the state’s latest accountability ratings and about the potential students are showcasing in their instruction and their activities outside the classroom. Construction saw meaningful progress, including opening the doors to the new cafeteria.
2025 was also a year of many adjustments, with Curry saying the district worked hard to quickly interpret and comply with the numerous changes to education law and policy, stemming from the legislative session.
Curry’s word to describe 2025 for Burton ISD is “momentum”, as heading into 2026, there is much reason for optimism with academic advancement, new campus facilities, and engaging with educators and families.
Throughout next year and beyond, Curry said the focus will remain on student excellence, supporting teachers and staff with needed resources, and sustaining strong partnerships with community members.
Curry has been Burton ISD’s superintendent since June 2024, coming to Burton after having served as an assistant superintendent in Galveston ISD since 2021.
