CITY OF BRENHAM LIFTS BOIL WATER NOTICE
The City of Brenham has lifted its boil water notice.
The city says it has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by the public water system for drinking or human consumption purposes. The city has provided the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) with laboratory test results showing the water no longer requires boiling before use.
Residents are advised to flush cold water taps for at least five minutes, starting on the lowest floor and moving upward, before flushing hot water lines for 15-30 minutes. Additionally, they should discard any ice or water from appliances like ice makers and refrigerators, clean faucet aerators, run dishwashers and washing machines, and replace all water filters.
The boil notice had been in effect since Monday night after a water main break, which led to reduced pressure in the water distribution system and a loss of water service in some areas.
For future emergency notifications, residents are encouraged to sign up for updates through the Everbridge notification system.
Full press release from the City of Brenham (12/31/25)
On December 29, 2025, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) required the City of Brenham public water system, PWS ID TX2390001, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to recent conditions in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled before use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
The public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes. It has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling before use as of December 31, 2025.
It is recommended to flush cold-water taps for at least 5 minutes, starting on the lowest floor and moving upward. Then flush hot water lines for 15–30 minutes. Discard any ice or water from appliances such as ice makers and refrigerators, clean faucet aerators, run dishwashers and washing machines (use a sanitizing cycle if available), and replace all water filters.
The EPA recommends replacing all water filters, such as refrigerator, faucet-mounted, under-sink, and reverse osmosis (RO) systems, after a boil water notice has been rescinded.
