FAYETTE COUNTY SPRING COYOTE CONTROL PROGRAM TO START TUESDAY
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office in conjunction with the Fayette County Commissioners Court are preparing for the start of their Spring Coyote Control Program next week.
The program, which starts this coming Tuesday and runs through April 30, is being held to give landowners, producers, and sportsmen a chance to assist in the control of coyotes in Fayette County.
Coyotes have been attacking livestock, which has resulted in economic losses to agricultural producers in the county.
Prizes will be given in the categories of whoever brings in the most coyotes, the heaviest coyote, and the heaviest female.
For most coyotes and heaviest coyote, prizes will be given to the top five finishers. It will be $100 for first, $75 for second, $50 for third, and $25 each for fourth and fifth.
For heaviest female, prizes will be given to the top three finishers. Those prizes are $50 for first, $30 for second, and $20 for third.
They have five rules for the program:
- All coyotes must be taken in Fayette County.
- Coyotes can be taken by any method, but it is illegal to buy a coyote from another person and enter it.
- The entire dead animal must be checked in and weighed on one of the official scales in order to be eligible.
- All coyotes entered in the program must be marked by spray painting the rear foot.
- The contestant is responsible for properly disposing of the coyotes entered.
The official scales are located at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Fayette County Office in La Grange, Farmers Co-Op Mill & Feed in Schulenburg, and Carmine Feed & Fertilizer in Carmine.
