BRENHAM BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT APPROVES REDUCTION TO DRIVE AISLE WIDTH AT SELECT FURNISHINGS
The Brenham Board of Adjustment on Monday unanimously approved a request from a local business to reduce the width of its drive aisle.
The applicant, Floresville Land Enterprises, Inc., sought a 3-foot reduction for the two-way drive aisle at Select Furnishings, 1900 Highway 290 West, from the minimum requirement of 24 feet to 21 feet.
TxDOT acquired additional road right-of-way because of its cloverleaf project, requiring the property owner to move the existing off-street parking to the north side of the building. The engineer, MBC Management, Inc., stated that it would not be possible to maintain the existing 24-foot width and still meet the 3:1 slope required for ADA access, due to significant elevation changes in the relocation area.
One citizen, who lives adjacent to the detention pond for the project, voiced concerns of additional water runoff due to the added paving. City staff said the issue would be reviewed once plans have been submitted.
Also on Monday, the board moved to reappoint Jon Hodde as chair and Arlen Thielemann as vice chair for 2026.
