WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER ADDING CENTER STRIPES ON THREE COUNTY ROADS

Washington County Commissioners will open their year of meetings on Tuesday with possible changes to three county roads.

Commissioners will hold a public hearing regarding a request to add center line stripes on sections of Wonder Hill Road in Precinct 2 and Old Gay Hill Road and North Berlin Road in Precinct 3.  After the hearing, the court will vote on approving the addition of double center line yellow stripes on the roads.

The proposed locations where the stripes are being requested are:

  • Wonder Hill Road – south of the Highway 290 intersection, west and east of the northern Wonder Hill Square intersection, at the Caney Creek Road intersection, south of the Stern Road intersection, and east of the Church Road intersection.
  • Old Gay Hill Road – northwest of the Pledger Road intersection.
  • North Berlin Road – east of the Old Gay Hill Road intersection.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the court will consider appointing EMS Director Kevin Deramus as interim emergency management coordinator.  The county’s previous emergency management coordinator, Bryan Ruemke, has retired after 24 years of service to the county.

Chief of Staff Carrie Marmol said the appointment will be a temporary measure until the new fire services director is fully brought on.  The fire services director position, which is a reworked version of the fire marshal position considered last year, will incorporate both fire and emergency management services.

Additional items will include potentially accepting a bid for a roof overlay project at the Washington County Jail and adopting a resolution supporting legislation to exempt Texas counties from the state hotel occupancy tax.

In other business, commissioners will consider:

  • Approving an award for two 2026 Ford F-450 ambulance prep package chassis.
  • Purchasing website hosting and subscription services from CivicPlus.
  • Approving a retainer agreement from Allison, Bass & Magee, LLP for legal services regarding Cause No. 38761 in the 335th District Court.
  • Acting on 2026 annual bid items for aviation fuel, flexible base, and pit and steel products.
  • Accepting a lawn services bid for designated areas within the county.
  • Renewing reserve deputy sheriff bonds for Ruben Fuentes, William Scott Atwood and Justin Knuppel.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
