BRENHAM MAN SENTENCED IN BRAZOS CO. TO 50 YEARS FOR AGGRAVATED CHILD SEX ASSAULT
A Brenham man was sentenced on Monday in Brazos County to 50 years in prison for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.
39-year-old Garrett Grant was found guilty by a jury last week after being arrested in 2022.
According to the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office, officials from the Bryan Police and Fire Departments responded on November 1, 2022 to an emergency call reporting a sexual assault had just occurred. Officers and paramedics found a child victim who was injured and stated she had been forcibly sexually assaulted.
Test results found the victim’s injuries to be consistent with sexual abuse, and DNA collected from the victim was later confirmed to be consistent with Grant.
As the victim received medical treatment, officers found Grant nearby at his apartment. The District Attorney’s Office says Grant admitted during an interview with Bryan police to having sexual contact with the victim.
A jury was impaneled on January 5th in 272nd District Court. Following the guilty verdict and during the punishment phase, Judge John Brick learned that Grant had previously been sentenced to prison for Burglary of a Habitation out of Washington County and Attempted Deadly Conduct out of Harris County.
In addition to Grant’s 50-year sentence, the judge granted the victim a lifetime protective order.
Brazos County Assistant District Attorneys Ryan Golden and Jessica Escue said, “The defendant’s horrific actions stole the innocence of a child and sentenced the victim to a lifetime of trauma. We are thankful that this sentence protects our community from further victimization at the hands of this defendant.”
