COLUMBUS GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH MIKE ALBERS HITS MILESTONE 1,000 CAREER WINS
It was a big night for Columbus Lady Cardinal Head Basketball Coach Mike Albers as he hit a career milestone on Friday night.
The Lady Cardinals picked up a 67-32 victory on the road against the Yoakum Lady Bulldogs. The win was also career victory number 1,000 for Coach Albers.
Albers' career includes stops at Round Top-Carmine, Moulton, Giddings, and his current location of Columbus. He got to share the moment with his son, Zach, who also one of assistant coaches.
Afterwards, family, friends, and fans congratulated Albers on the win after the game, and the team unveiled a celebratory banner.
Also, during the game, Thea Schobel set a school record for most points in a game with 34, one point more than the previous record set by Jenn Smidovec's 33.
The win improved Columbus to 21-6 on the season, and 6-1 in district.
Next up, the Lady Cardinals have a bye on Tuesday night, and will be back action on Friday at Industrial going for win number 1,001.
