BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO GIVE NOTICE TO ISSUE $14.4 MILLION IN CERTIFICATES OF OBLIGATION, DISCUSS ‘ICE CREAM CAPITAL OF TEXAS’ BRANDING

The Brenham City Council will look to give notice of intent on Thursday to issue certificates of obligation (COs) for water system improvements, drainage projects, and capital purchases and projects.

The city plans to issue up to $14,460,000 in COs, including $7 million for the purchase of two fire trucks, the remodel of the existing fire station, other public safety purposes and street reconstruction.  There is also $5.8 million slated for the remaining portion of the water treatment plant expansion and $1.52 million for various drainage projects.

Following publication of the notice of intent, the city plans to officially award the COs in April.

Also on Thursday, the council will hold a work session for discussion on Brenham’s status as the “Ice Cream Capital of Texas” and a logo and brand guide developed to reflect that status.

As part of the 2025 legislative session, lawmakers passed a resolution designating Brenham as the official “Ice Cream Capital of Texas” for a 10-year period ending in 2035.  A brand guide task force has been meeting since late in the summer to identify brand components, choose specific imagery, review logo options and color variations, and complete a brand guide to promote consistency in marking and communications.

In other business, the council will:

  • Hold an executive session regarding the purchase, exchange or acquisition of real property for City of Brenham Electric Department improvements and facilities.
  • Act on a resolution providing for the approval of the bylaws of the Main Street Advisory Board.

The council will meet Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
