ELECTION 2026: WASHINGTON CO. JUDGE CANDIDATE BRAD TEGELER
KWHI continues to visit with candidates ahead of the March primary election in Washington County.
Today, we wrap up our look at the race for county judge with Brad Tegeler, who is running against Douglas Cone and Kirk Hanath for the seat held by John Durrenberger, who is not running for another term.
Tegeler has held leadership roles such as chief of staff and legislative director for lawmakers in the Texas Legislature. He currently chairs the Audit Committee on the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, serves as the general counsel for the Tegeler family of dealerships, and is vice chair of the Brenham Heritage Museum Board of Directors.
Tegeler seeks to reduce the tax burden on residents, properly staff all departments, and improve the county’s accessibility and transparency through methods such as mobile office hours or commissioners court meetings held outside of the courthouse, in locations like Burton or Chappell Hill. He also wishes to explore and maximize all funding opportunities, with one potential avenue being the hire of a full-time grant writer.
Tegeler aims to bring a new perspective to the county, with a stated desire of keeping the county a “shining star” and making sure future generations have the same opportunities he did.
KWHI is asking each candidate questions about their thoughts on the main responsibilities of the office they are seeking, what they believe to be the top priorities to address, and what they feel makes them unique as a candidate.
Early voting begins on Tuesday, February 17th. Election Day is Tuesday, March 3rd.
