ELECTION 2026: WASHINGTON CO. PCT. 2 COMMISSIONER CANDIDATE MARK SCHONEFELD
Two weeks from the beginning of early voting for the March primary election, KWHI continues to visit with candidates in Washington County.
We now move into the Precinct 2 county commissioner race, where four candidates are contending for the seat currently held by Candice Bullock, who is not seeking another term in office. Candidates vying for the position are Mark Schonefeld, Jim Chisolm, William “Bubba” Herrin and Amanda Klehm.
Our previews start with Mark Schonefeld, who is the owner and operator of Schonefeld Farms in Chappell Hill and has past experience including service as a project manager for REC Industries. He has also represented local producers on the Farm Service Agency committee, served with the Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department, and been a Breeders Greeters committee member for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Schonefeld says areas of major importance are the safety, security and property protection of citizens, so he wants to address the level of support given to the county’s volunteer fire departments and give the sheriff more control in the hiring process to be able to bring in and retain new deputies. He also says the county will have to take a strong look at its water supply and ensure it is viable for future generations.
Schonefeld says he strongly believes in “communication, commitment and conservatism”, and he wishes to better involve the public in the county’s decision-making and maintain a spirit of collaboration.
KWHI is asking each candidate questions about what they feel are the core responsibilities of the office they are running for, their plans for working with other county officials and departments, and their top priorities.
Early voting gets started on Tuesday, February 17th. Election Day is Tuesday, March 3rd.
