BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL ACCEPTS BID FOR FIRST PHASE OF BRENHAM FAMILY PARK
The long-awaited Brenham Family Park project is taking a major step forward.

discusses the details of a bid submitted for the first
phase of the Brenham Family Park project during
Thursday's city council meeting.
The Brenham City Council accepted a bid today (Thursday) from MBC Management to launch the first phase of the project to bring a new park to the south side of Brenham.
Plans for the initial stage of the 32-acre park project, which will sit on 100 acres donated to the city by Ed and Evelyn Kruse, call for an amenity pond, a walking and biking trail, a pedestrian bridge, wildflower areas, parking, a bathroom facility and lighting.
City of Brenham Public Works Director Dane Rau said it has been 26 years since the city opened a new park, and after numerous hurdles to clear, the city is close to finally seeing its vision realized.
The bid from MBC Management, one of five companies to submit bids, totals $4,136,965 and includes an alternate to add path markings along the trail for dedicated walking and biking lanes.
The city has $4.15 million in available funding, split between $2.4 million in sales tax dollars budgeted through the Brenham Community Development Corporation, $1 million in Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone funds, and a $750,000 grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
The council chambers filled with applause upon passage of the item. Mayor Atwood Kenjura said the new park should be a great addition to the city.
Rau said he expects a groundbreaking will occur in around 60 days, with completion anticipated within a year.
