In a social media post this (Tuesday) afternoon, the county announced that Deramus is accepting a new position with the Texas Division of Emergency Management as Region 8 Section Chief.  His last date with the county will be March 1st

The news comes after Deramus told county commissioners last week that he was confident the current status of the EMS Department was “the best place we’ve ever been,” citing full staffing and a low tax burden for county residents.  He says thanks to the efforts across the department and the county, EMS has taken substantial steps forward and become a trailblazer.

As Region 8 Section Chief, Deramus will oversee emergency preparedness and response for 30 Texas counties, including Washington County.  He says he has been involved with TDEM in years past through his duties in emergency management at the county level and through Texas A&M Task Force 1’s search and rescue operations.  He calls this a perfect opportunity, one that will allow him to remain in Washington County.

Deramus says he “couldn’t be happier with the direction of the county” and believes the department has the right people in place to continue serving residents at the highest level.

The county praised Deramus for “caring for the families of Washington County and helping build something truly special.”  It said, “We wish Kevin continued success and blessings as he begins this next chapter of service.”
