MESSAGE OF UNITY, STRENGTH SHARED AT BRENHAM ACTIVIST ASSOCIATION BLACK HISTORY BREAKFAST
A large crowd was on hand on Saturday for the Brenham Activist Association’s 37th Annual Black History Breakfast at the New Life Church of God Activity Center.

The featured speaker for the program was Sheryl Calton, who is currently the school counselor at the Beatrice Mayes Institute in Houston and has served for over four decades in public, private and charter school systems as a counselor and administrator.
Calton talked about how freedom is something to be cherished, not just remembered, and how this moment today did not come by accident.
Calton gave a call to action to teach the truth, support one another, invest into youth, protect unity, and keep the faith.
Calton leads counseling initiatives based in trauma-informed practice, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, and restorative practices. Additionally, she has collaborated with principals, mentors and educator preparation programs statewide, and she has served as a marriage and family therapist.
Professional honors for Calton include being named an Assistant Principal of the Year for Region 4 and being selected as the ethics speaker for the 2025 Texas Counseling Association’s state conference.
