THE SPECTATOR: WASHINGTON COUNTY NEEDS A CEO
Early voting has begun for the March 3rd Primary Election. And looking at the number of people who voted the first couple of days, it appears the races are drawing a lot of attention. I certainly hope so, as this may be the most important county election in decades. It’s possible that three of the five members of the Washington County Commissioners Court could be new in 2027. One of the most important races is the one for County Judge, who is basically the Chief Executive Officer for the county. Although the office is called “judge”, there really are no “judging” duties involved with this position. It doesn’t require any judicial or law enforcement background. What is does require is management skills. The County Judge presides over Commissioners Court meetings, serves as the chief administrator over county departments, oversees the county budget, and is the county’s top emergency management official. Washington County needs a leader in this position. We are growing rapidly, and our county faces many important issues, including water. We need a County Judge that can guide the Commissioners to solutions. Someone with integrity that earns the public’s trust. I encourage you to make the time to vote in this election. As I said, it is probably one of the most important county elections in decades. You should want to have a say in who our county leaders will be, and the direction in which they lead us. Early voting continues through next Friday, February 27th at the County Courthouse Annex building on the square in Downtown Brenham. They even have hours this weekend for you to vote from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. So, if you are registered, there really is no reason for you not to vote. Election day is Tuesday, March 3rd. And that’s the way it looks to this Spectator.
