LADY PANTHER BASKETBALL CLINCHES AREA TITLE WITH A WIN OVER WEIMAR

Lexi Broesche (Burton ISD)

The Burton Lady Panthers and the Weimar Lady Cats are no strangers to each other when it comes to playoff battles. This time, it was the Lady Panther Basketball Team coming out on top 57-45 over Weimar in last (Friday) night's Area Round playoff battle in Giddings.

Burton got off to a fast start and outscored the Lady Cats 15-6 in the first quarter. The Lady Panthers would also double up Weimar in the second quarter 19-8, which gave Burton a 33-15 lead at halftime.

Val Hernandez (Burton ISD)

The Lady Panthers built on their lead in the third quarter by outscoring the Lady Cats 17-14, which gave Burton a 50-29 lead going into the final period.

The fourth quarter belonged to Weimar, as they won their only period over the Lady Panthers, 16-7. However, Burton had built up too much of an early lead for them to overcome.

Lexi Broesche led the Lady Panthers with 14 points. Val Hernandez and Leilah Ellis finished with 11 points each.

Burton now moves on the Region-Semifinals next week, where they will face Harper. Harper knocked off Yorktown last (Friday) night to advance as well. Playoff information is to be determined.
