FATAL ACCIDENT UNDER INVESTIGATION AFTER VEHICLE FALLS OFF LAKE SOMERVILLE DAM
DPS is investigating a fatal single-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon at Lake Somerville that resulted in the death of a Dime Box man.
The crash occurred around 3 p.m. on Thornberry Drive, the road that runs along the dam at the lake.
According to DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz, a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling northbound on Thornberry Drive when it went across the roadway and struck a guardrail before going down the rock of the embankment, coming to rest upside down on the shoreline.
The driver, 62-year-old Eugenio Morales-Prado of Dime Box, was transported to St. Joseph Health Burleson Hospital in Caldwell, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The passenger, 36-year-old Ana Vazquez of Caldwell, was taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in College Station with injuries believed to be serious.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
