CUB BASEBALL BOUNCES BACK WITH 13-1 WIN OVER CY CREEK

After a rough go of it at the Louisiana Tournament, the Brenham Cub Baseball Team got back on the winning track last (Monday) night with a 13-1 victory over Cy Creek.

Cy Creek got on the board early with a run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.

It would stay that way until the top of the fourth inning, when Brenham came up with three runs in the frame to take a 3-1 lead. Brody Tucker reached on a one out single. His courtesy runner, Caleb Maurer, stole second, and then took third on a throwing error. Nate Rau would then bring Maurer home on an RBI groundout, which tied the game at 1-1. Ethan Aschenbeck walked, stole second, and came around to score on an RBI single by Dalton Hart to give the Cubs a 2-1 lead. Hart later came home on a wild pitch to make it 3-1 Brenham.

The big inning for the Cubs came in the fifth when they sent 14 batters to the plate and scored 10 runs. Landry Mendoza started the inning by getting hit by a pitch. Brayden Steele and Brody Tucker drew a pair of walks to load the bases. Maurer came in to run for Tucker again. Rau drew a bases loaded walk, which scored Mendoza. Ethan Aschenbeck then delivered the big blow of the night with a grand slam over the left field fence. That increased the Brenham lead 8-1.

The Cubs added more runs on the scoreboard as Hart reached on a double, Bentke walked, and Owen Finke singled home Hart. Mendoza walked to re-load the bases. Steele drew yet another walk, which scored Bentke. Brooks Roznovsky hit a two-run single to bring in Finke and Mendoza. Steele later scored on a pass ball to round out the scoring at 13-1.

Jaseton Bolcerek got the start, and picked up the win giving up just one run over four innings. Braeden Gandy closed out the win in the bottom of the fifth by retiring all three batters that he faced.

Next up, for the Brenham, they are going to open the Corpus Christi Tournament on Thursday. They will play Austin Anderson at 1pm, and Corpus Christi King at 5:30pm.
