BRENHAM POLICE CHIEF ADDRESSES DOWNTOWN NOISE CONCERNS, DISCUSSES PD’s 100TH ANNIVERSARY

Brenham Police Chief Gary Boshears informed city councilmembers last week of the police department’s efforts to cut down on noise ordinance violations and shared its early plans for a centennial celebration.

Brenham Police Chief Gary Boshears addresses the
city council at its February 19th meeting, speaking
on steps police are taking to address noise
nuisances and unveiling plans for a 100th
anniversary celebration for the police department.

A resident who lives downtown came forward at the beginning of last week’s council meeting to ask the city for assistance with vehicles cruising and playing loud music, which he said has become a nuisance in the afternoon and at night.  Mayor Atwood Kenjura acknowledged that several emails have come in from concerned citizens and said he has met with Boshears on this issue.

Boshears said the department has made sure everyone is up to speed on understanding the noise ordinance, specifically the restrictions on sound being audible no more than 50 feet when coming from vehicles.  He said patrol officers and supervisors are aware this has become an increasing issue, and they are upping their enforcement efforts.

Boshears encouraged citizens to report any concerns or violations to law enforcement.

At the end of the meeting, Boshears announced that 2026 marks the 100-year anniversary of the creation of the Brenham Police Department.  He said the department has a number of plans in the works to commemorate the occasion throughout the year, and that he intends to share more details next month in a dedicated report to the council, but it is currently targeting a community event for May 1st.

Boshears also showed councilmembers a limited-edition, 100th anniversary badge that officers have been authorized to wear, featuring a design that calls back to the original badges first worn by the police department.
